My name is Claudio Concato. I have been in the fashion business for over 25 years. I have been living in New York City since 1993, and just recently relocated to Mexico City, which I find very interesting and up-and-coming. I started my career as a fashion designer in 1988 in Italy (my native country), working for United Colors of Benetton as senior women’s designer for five years, until I moved to the United States. Part of my job at Benetton involved travelling around the world scouting for trends and buying vintage clothing for inspiration. Vintage clothing has always been my passion, for which I have always had a very special eye, to later develop themes and design collections back in the office. In New York City I started my own creative consulting company called Angel in my Closet, a service in the US based on vintage scouting specifically for creative directors, design teams or designers’ brands. The method I used involved styling on a mannequin the vintage clothing and accessories that I would select and buy for each client, draping the clothes to modernize shapes and photographing them as coordinated looks, giving the impression of a real collection or a fashion show. My work would serve as a starting point for inspiration and ideas, and the designers would copy the looks or the clothing pieces as they interpreted them or would develop them according to their vision and needs. All the clothing which was photographed as part of a consulting project belonged to the client so the clothing pieces could not be used again by someone else. Each consulting project also would include storyboards featuring fabric and color swatches to introduce the trends of the season. My clients included Kristina Ti, Lancetti, Agnona, Replay, We Are Replay, Pinko, United Colors of Benetton, Sisley, Miroglio Vestebene Motivi, Max Mara, Studio Elle, Rotary Textile and Enzo Fusco, among others.
In Mexico City, my first project has been designing a line of necklaces inspired by vintage pieces .The necklaces, which are handcrafted by local artisans and produced under the Family Heirloom label, reflect my passion for reinterpreting moods from the past into designs which are both timeless yet contemporary. I find Mexico to be an endless source of inspiration, which often comes from the most unexpected of places: life on the streets.I have developed a very personal vision of Mexico's tradition of handmade objects, and I am constantly stimulated by the country's vibrant and colorful energy.

Il mio nome e’ Claudio Concato. Lavoro nel campo della moda da piu’ di 25 anni. Ho vissuto a New York per 23 anni ed ultimamente mi sono trasferito a Citta´del Messico , una citta’ che trovo molto interessante , stimolante ed in pieno sviluppo creativo. Ho inziato la mia carriera in Italia nel 1988 lavorando presso United Colors Of Benetton come parte del design team seguendo le collezioni donna fino al 1993 , anno in cui mi sono trasferito negli Stati Uniti. In particolare , durante la mia esperienza presso la Benetton mi occupavo di ricerca nel vintage , viaggiando in tutto il mondo captando tendenze e comperando capi di ispirazione da sviluppare in seguito dentro ai temi delle collezioni. Da sempre ho avuto una grande passione per il vintage ed un occhio particolarmente allenato nel saper sceglere e selezionare capi provenienti dalle fonti piu’ inaspettate per tradurli e reinventarli dentro alla contemporaneita’. A New York ho iniziato la mia propia attivita’ di consulente con Angel in my Closet, un servizio di ricerca nel vintage specifico per ogni azienda, indirizzato ai direttori creativi e agli stilisti di un marchio. Il método che ho creato consiste nel mettere inseme un certo numero di looks fotografati su un manichino usando capi ed accessori vintage, trasformandoli e reinterpretandoli in chiave moderna in modo tale che sembrino il look book di una sfilata e che servano come stimolo e punto di partenza al team creativo per sviluppare la loro collezione. I capi utilizzati per il progetto appartengono al cliente il quale li puo’ usare come vuole, prendendo dettagli , copiando i looks pari pari o sviluppandoli in maniera completamente diversa in base alle proprie esigenze. Il mio obbiettivo e’ essere d’ aiuto agli stilisti ed art director di un azienda fornendo loro, attraverso la ricerca, materiale interessante per lo sviluppo della loro visione. Tra i miei clienti….. A Mexico City il mio primo progetto e’ una linea di collane ispirate agli anni sessanta e settanta con un leggero tocco etnico. I pezzi, tutti prodotti in Messico da artigiani locali riflettono la mia passione nel riprendere e reinterpretare elementi del passato trasformandoli in oggetti contemporanei e senza tempo. Per questo per il marchio, ho scelto il nome Family Heirloom che significa´eredita’ famigliare.´Per me il Messico rappresente un' ínfinita fonte di ispirazione che spesso viene dai luoghi piu’ inaspettati e dall’ energia colorata e vibrante di questa terra, filtrata dalla mia visione e sensibilita’.
